Workshop in Rome
Piotr traveled to Rome to attend and give a lecture at a summer school "Markets and Governments: a Theoretical Appraisal." This was a truly unique event bringing together researchers from economics, philosophy, and law, as well as faculty and students interested in the topics at the intersection of markets and governments. The summer school took place in the beautiful Villa Mandragone: Piotr presented in the same room in which Pope Gregory XIII signed the papal bull establishing the Gregorian calendar in 1582!
The project presented by Piotr, under the new title "Optimal Redistribution via Income Taxation and Market Design" studies the interaction of IMD and income taxation. The project---as well as the IMD agenda in general---was very well received and generated a lot of discussion.
On top of exchanging important ideas about inequality and redistribution, the summer school was a great opportunity to network and learn about organizing similar events (ahead of the IMD Days next year).
