Empirically-oriented research assistants (PhD or MA students) for a short project

GRAPE is looking for empirically-oriented research assistants (PhD or MA students)

We offer two six-months full-time research assistant position for our project

The National Science Center (NCN) finances the project as a follow up effort to promote science and disseminate the results of earlier research. We are open to hiring more students on a part-time basis.

Requirements: Good command of English is a must. We welcome applications from candidates who have an interest in promoting science. There are several projects for which we seek assistance. In candidates, we value the interest in empirical analyses, prior experience with quantitative methods (such as your project papers, your BA thesis, etc.) is appreciated but is not a prerequisite. The projects feature communication and highly computationally intensive tasks, we thus encourage candidates interested in communicating science and in data science.

Tasks: The research assistants will be responsible for drafting texts, coding, data management, and data analysis. We welcome involvement in actually studying the topic with us (reviewing relevant literature and active participation in writing the articles). We are open to co-authoring by the research assistants.

Conditions: We offer a contract of employment (“umowa o pracę”). The contract is fixed term, as our project ends on April 30th, 2025. The compensation will be in net terms at par with the standard NCN scholarship (approx. 5000 PLN per month). A workload of approximately 35-40 hours per week is expected, but working hours are flexible and task-oriented. However, the assistant is expected to work in our office to meet with the project team on a regular basis. Inclusion of parts of the research in your PhD/MA thesis is possible. The assistant will also be able to use the office facilities for her/his own work (non-commercial use).

About us: GRAPE currently ranks 6th top economic institute in Poland. We have connections to the leading European and American research centers. We are located in the center of Warsaw. All researchers have a designated workplace with access to a computer, printers, office supplies as well as a social space. We offer a friendly and stimulating work environment among young researchers. We regularly host seminars, which give the opportunity to learn and share in a kind yet motivating atmosphere.

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible. The applications sent before September 15th, 2024, will receive full attention. Please, send us your curriculum vitae, along with a cover letter explaining your prior involvement in empirical work. We will also appreciate a sample of your recent writing (e.g., article, essay, assignment). Please, send your application to grape@grape.org.pl.
