Business Data Science Summer School at Tinbergen Institute: Deep Learning
I participated in a summer school on deep learning methods taught by Eran Raviv from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Deep learning is a relatively new approach in nonparametric statistics. It relies on complex model architecture to detect subtleties in the data that could not be captured within standard frameworks. It has been successful in various fields of data science including image recognition and text interpretation. Deep learning methods are also making their way to economics facilitating estimation of highly dimensional models. It was particularly valuable to obtain last minute feedback on our research into the effects of the Program 500 Plus and women’s labor market decisions in Poland.
