Czwarta edycja Gender Gaps Conference 2023 dobiegła końca. To były dwa niezwykłe i intensywne dni. Doskonali prelegenci, żywe dyskusje, fantastyczna atmosfera – i ogromna dawka wiedzy i merytorycznego wsparcia. Dziękujemy!

Tegoroczna konferencja to kolejny dowód na to, że badanie nierówności między kobietami a mężczyznami to ważny i rozwojowy obszar nauk społecznych. W tym roku mogliśmy usłyszeć m.in. o politykach firm i państw wspierających plany prokreacyjne – i jak te polityki oddziałują na decyzje pracowników i przyszłych rodziców, o eksperymencie w norweskim wojsku, który pokazał, że samo dostarczenie informacji o braku powszechnej akceptacji niektórych zachowań może zmniejszać ryzyko molestowania w wojsku, czy też o tym, że ocena stanu wiedzy finansowej zależy od tego jak sformułujemy pytania w ankiecie.

W wykładzie plenarnym Libertad Gonzalez podążyliśmy ścieżką oceny efektów reformy wprowadzającej w Hiszpanii urlopy rodzicielskie przeznaczone dla ojców. Jak pokazała nasza doskonała prelegentka, chociaż krótkoterminowe spodziewane efekty dotyczące m.in. zwiększenia zaangażowania kobiet na rynku pracy czy wsparcia dzietności nie były specjalnie obiecujące, efekty długoterminowe – zmiana w zakresie postrzegania norm, planów zawodowych, czy faktycznego podziału obowiązków w kolejnym pokoleniu była naprawdę znacząca.

W drugiej prelekcji, Abi Adams-Prassl pokazała nam przekrój wyników badań dotyczący przemocy domowej. W swoich badaniach Abi precyzyjnie określa z jak dużą stratą (związaną np. z niemożnością wykonywania pracy przez ofiary przemocy) mierzymy się jako społeczeństwo nieefektywnie walcząc z przemocą domową. Fascynujące wyniki i tak ważny temat!

Wśród fantastycznych zgłoszeń doktorantów Komitet Naukowy zdecydował się wyróżnić dwie "perły". Główna Nagroda przyznana została Wenqi Lu za artykuł "Joint Time or Purchased Goods? The Togetherness Value and Intrahousehold Allocation". Specjalne wyróżnienie przypadło natomiast Nicole Venus za pracę "The representation of female economists on Wikipedia". Gratulujemy!

The fourth edition of the Gender Gaps Conference 2023 has come to an end. These were two extraordinary and intense days. Excellent speakers, lively discussions, fantastic atmosphere - and a huge dose of knowledge and substantive support. Thank you!

This year's conference is further proof that the study of inequalities between women and men is an important and developing area of social sciences. This year we could hear, among others: about the policies of companies and countries supporting reproductive plans - and how these policies affect the decisions of employees and future parents, about an experiment in the Norwegian army, which showed that simply providing information about the lack of general acceptance of certain behaviors can reduce the risk of harassment in the army, or about that the assessment of financial knowledge depends on how we formulate the questions in the survey.

In Libertad Gonzalez's plenary lecture, we followed the path of assessing the effects of the reform introducing parental leave for fathers in Spain. As our excellent speaker showed, although the short-term expected effects regarding, among others, increasing women's involvement in the labor market or supporting fertility were not particularly promising, the long-term effects - the change in the perception of norms, career plans, and the actual division of responsibilities in the next generation were really significant.

In the second lecture, Abi Adams-Prassl showed us a cross-section of research results on domestic violence. In his research, Abi precisely determines how much loss (related to, for example, the inability of victims of violence to work) we as a society face by ineffectively fighting domestic violence. Fascinating results and such an important topic!

Among the fantastic applications submitted by doctoral students, the Scientific Committee decided to distinguish two "pearls". The Grand Prize was awarded to Wenqi Lu for her article "Joint Time or Purchased Goods? The Togetherness Value and Intrahousehold Allocation". A special mention went to Nicole Venus for her work "The representation of female economists on Wikipedia". Congratulations!
