GRAPE is looking for
Research Assistants (applied economics)
We offer a full-time or part-time research position for our new NCN project:
led by Gabriela Contreras, Linas Tarasonis, Lucas van der Velde, & Joanna Tyrowicz (the PI),
Why do gender inequalities persist? Are they mainly the result of personal choices, or do they reflect unequal bargaining power? Using rich data from many countries over several decades, along with modern statistical methods, the project identifies situations where bargaining power changes for reasons beyond individual control. By doing so, it sheds new light on why some equality policies succeed while others fall short, and how well-designed policies can promote fairer outcomes for everyone. We welcome applications from all candidates who have an interest in applied empirical work, like working with big data. This position is particularly suitable for candidates who are determined to pursue a career in academia.
Tasks: The tasks of the assistant involve coding, data management, data analysis, checking proofs, and review of literature as well as drafting components of scientific articles and non-technical posts for a blog. Specific topics include working on gender equality, education, fertility, employment and wages. We will work with administrative data and other modern data sources.
Requirements: Working knowledge of English is a must. Familiarity with scientific computing constitutes an advantage. Experience in programming in STATA or R is a plus. We prioritize prior research experience and academic orientation.
Conditions: We offer a scholarship (“stypendium"). The compensation amounts to 5000 PLN per month for full time. The successful candidate is expected to work about 20 hours per week (part-time) or about 40 hours per week (full-time), but working schedule is flexible and can be adjusted to your curriculum, exam sessions and other student obligations. Team meetings will be held regularly. The expected contract duration is until the end of the project (December 2029). We offer a unique opportunity to collaborate with and learn from leading scholars in the field who are involved in the project. We also foresee research stays to collaborate with co-authors in Lithuania. As a member of GRAPE, you can expect to receive support in applying for their own research funding both during the project and upon completion.

We offer a designated workspace at an office dominated by young people, all involved in research projects, with a well-equipped computer and all the conventional infrastructure. The assistant will also be able to use the facilities for work not directly related to the project. We offer a friendly and stimulating work environment.
