We presented a preliminary version of out paper on income dynamics in Poland, where we use administrative personal income tax data for all employed individuals from 2000 to 2020, to trace earnings over the life-course. The paper is embedded in the Global Repository of Income Dynamics (GRID) framework.

Our research confirms previous findings: we observe that during this period earnings grew across all percentiles, inequality rose until the mid-2000s and has narrowed since, mobility is lower than in other European countries. We expanded on existing research, by recovering structural parameters of income process separately for men and women. The results show low persistence (ρ ≈ 0.54), with frequent small positive shocks and rarer, larger negative ones that become more likely when unemployment is high, and differences by gender consistent with labor market sorting and family formation. The mixture-of-normals process outperforms simpler AR(1) specifications.

We thank the organizers for the possibility of presenting this paper in the poster session. We look forwards to participating next year.
