We offer a full-time or part-time research position for our ERC project:
The project is planned for three years, but shorter contract durations are possible. The project combines theoretical tools (mechanism and market design) with a focus on applied problems of social and economic inequality. A more detailed description of the project is available here↗. The position is initially offered for one year, with extension upon successful evaluation.
Tasks: This is a pure research position, with no teaching obligations. You are expected to collaborate with other team members on developing the IMD agenda, primarily through co-authoring papers. You are encouraged to contribute your own papers to the IMD research agenda. You are expected to actively participate in all academic activities of the project, including reading groups, workshops, and conferences.
Requirements: A completed PhD degree in economics (or a related field) is required from candidates. The PhD degree should be granted no later than July 1st, 2025 and no earlier than January 1st, 2018 (exceptions are possible in special circumstances). A strong background in economic theory is a must, while any prior research experience in topics of inequality and redistribution will be considered an advantage. When evaluating candidates, we will be looking for signs of creativity, research maturity, and independence (as best evidenced by completed or ongoing research projects).
Conditions: We offer a salary of 3,000 EUR per month for a full-time position before all taxes and contributions. The salary is indexed at 3% yearly. The project includes funding for international travel to attend workshops and conferences. We also foresee research stays to collaborate with co-authors at Harvard and Stanford. Members of GRAPE can expect to receive support in applying for their own research funding. The working hours are flexible and task-oriented.
About Piotr: Piotr holds a double affiliation at Northwestern University and FAME|GRAPE. He has published in Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, and Quarterly Journal of Economics. He is a leading theorist in market, mechanism, and information design.
About GRAPE: GRAPE is a small non-governmental research center, and it already ranks 7th top economic institute↗ in Poland. We have ties to leading European and American research institutions. Our fully equipped office is located in the center of Warsaw. We offer a friendly and stimulating work environment among young researchers.
The position starts on July 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications received before December 15th will be given full consideration. Interviews will be scheduled starting in January.
Please, send us your curriculum vitae, up to three research papers, and contact details for references. The application should be sent to IMD@grape.org.pl. We will contact selected candidates to schedule interviews, and then presentations of their work. The recruitment process will be fully remote, but an in-person visit can be arranged for successful candidates prior to signing a contract.
